Calling All Non-Profits: Apply for a Solar Donation!

The Green Mountain EnergyTM Sun ClubTM has already donated solar energy systems to almost 50 worthy non-profits across Texas, New York, and Pennsylvania; installed 550 kilowatts of solar power; and prevented more than 850,000 pounds of carbon dioxide since its founding in 2002.

Now we need your assistance finding our next solar donation recipients for 2014!   Encourage your favorite non-profit to apply by filling out a form.  Applications will be accepted through August 2, 2013.

Recipients are chosen based on some of the following criteria:

  • A not-for-profit interested in hosting, owning and maintaining a solar generation system on its property.
  • The organization’s mission and contribution to its community.
  • The site of the installation is owned by the organization and located in the United States.
  • Solar educational opportunities the organization will be able to provide to the public.

Qualified applicants will be contacted after August 2 for further review.

Hi, Just wondering if a Home Owner’s Association for an urban residential building would be able to qualify for a donation?

It doesn’t meet the specific criteria for owning the property, but it does have legal responsibilities for the building which is owned by it’s constituents.

      Hi Scott,

As long as you are a non-profit organization, we encourage you to apply.

      Thank you for your interest.

  2. Hello, Caitlin!

Our animal shelter is purchasing the land that our kennels occupy, but does not yet have clear title. Would we still be able to apply for the Sun Club grant? Thank you,

    Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels

      Hi Cherie,

Please wait until you have clear ownership of the land to apply. Even if you don’t make the August 2nd deadline for a 2014 donation, you can still apply to receive one in 2015.

Unity of Arlington is actively involved in the local community. By providing Compassionate Communication (NVC) training and practice groups free of charge and open to the greater DFW community, hosting annual Peace Camps for children, offering a course on World Religions, presenting an annual Interfaith Prayer Service on World Day of Prayer, weekly meditation group, and hosting The Art of Living courses, Unity of Arlington is actively promoting a culture of peace.
Having a solar system to assist with the energy demands would greatly enhance our involvement in the community.

What financial assistance is available for homeowners to use solar energy systems ?

    • Caitlin says:

      Hi Ken,

The Sun Club is a program designed strictly to assist non-profit organizations.

However, Green Mountain offers a Renewable Rewards product which buys back excess energy generated from our customers’ renewable installations at their homes. For more information, please visit

  5. I am nery interested but ,I do not know where I can get help Please Help.

Ken Whitley wants to know about financial assistance for homeowners. My solar installer was very knowledgable about assistance here in TX. Our local electric system provider had a 30% rebate, and the Federal Tax rebates amounted to another large rebate, although I had to take it over 2 years since my income tax was lower than the incentive. I am not sure what your state or the tax rules are for 2013, but your nearest solar installer should be able to tell you what is current.
